What Others Say About Us

  • “When I first met Sean 6 years ago I had very limited cycling experience and was looking to buy a mountain bike so that I could ride casually with friends on the Brandywine trails. Sean’s passion for the sport of cycling (whether it is mountain, cx, or road) was immediately evident and highly contagious. Through the years Sean has coached me from being a casual mountain biker, to mountain bike racer, to road racer, to triathlete with multiple IRONMAN finishes."

  • "Throughout the years, I’ve known a number of coaches. Last year, I had the pleasure of working with Sean. It was one of the more rewarding experiences I’ve had. I reached a level of fitness I had not seen in years. But above and beyond the wattage and so forth, it was just terrific to be able to communicate with someone who in addition to being a good listener, is also passionate about his work."

  • Sean, I just wanted to say “Thank You” for helping me out over the summer. I had a short term, high intensity goal. Go from low maintenance miles back to form and being able to “hang” on a week of group rides with co-workers. I am the poster child for the time crunched athlete. You gave me the workouts and then patiently checked up on me. And even if I was not able to follow the plan exactly, you adjusted and always maintained a positive message. I not only “hung” onto the rides, I had moments of glory! Look forward to working with you on more long term goals.

  • "I met Sean early in his road racing career after having already raced seven seasons of my own. Despite being relatively new to the sport, his knowledge of training already surpassed my own and it showed in his results. Since then, I have been coached by Sean and have done all of my bike fits with him. He approaches each athlete as an individual and develops the training plans based on their goals, experience level, and lifestyle. Sean is constantly searching for new and better ways to improve and update his training and fitting methods so that he and his clients can have the best possible experience on the bike."

  • After racing for a few years, I reached out to Sean for some training advice. He composed a plan which met my specific needs and was able to get me in the best shape I ever was on a bike. With having a family and working full time, the free time I have is limited, Sean was able to put together a training plan that gave me the most benefit without being on a bike all the time. Sean also provided me with an excellent bike fit which keeps me comfortable on the bike all day long and while getting the most power out of a comfortable and sustainable position. Aside from his knowledge of training and fitting, Sean is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to bike products and mechanics, I am always asking him questions to which he supplies the answers.

  • "When I came to Sean, I had already spent 7 seasons racing and towed the start line nearly 200 times. I'd been coached by 2 other coaches over the years and they both had big impacts on my progression. I knew coaching could be critically important and came to Sean to try and refresh and break through after 2 seasons of treading water as a cat 3, middle to back of the pack. I also was increasingly participating in multi-sport events and competitive running was completely new to me. Sean was able to build on my bike racing experience by improving my time trials and climbing while maintaining my traditional strength in the sprints. No longer was I dropped on hilly circuits. No longer was I passed in the TT's. From April to August, I was near the front almost every weekend. And in July, thanks to Sean, I met a long standing personal goal of going sub-19 minutes on the Drives TT, while also riding with the lead group on the very hilly, very long state championship road race. However, the success wasn't to the road alone. Sean also helped me become good enough at running that, when combined with the bike, I was competitive in the multi-sport events as well; even wining a few. Finally, Sean performed a custom fit for both my TT bike and road bike. The TT bike I knew needed a major update and the results were dramatic. I was now able to output nearly the same power on the TT bike as the road bike while still maintaining a very aerodynamic position. However, the road bike fit was the bigger surprise. I thought I had that bike pretty much dialed in but I was wrong. After Sean was finished, a nagging shoulder pain was completely eliminated. My power numbers went up immediately AND I felt less fatigue, even in the longest races. I don't want to make it sound like he has a magic bullet. It came down to a lot of hard work and long miles but Sean ensured that ever mile counted towards the final goal and the results were dramatic. It was a pleasure working with Sean and I would highly recommend him."

  • "I remember the first day when I told my parents I wanted to bike across the country. They raised their eyebrows in skepticism; yet were surprisingly supportive- most likely they figured I wouldn’t follow through. My family was in no way a biking family, so I dragged my parents down to our local bike shop, Human Zoom, in Ardmore. This is where I met Sean.  I started working with Sean in February for my pre-trip training. He would map out entire routes for me and we would take weekly training rides all over the Main Line. Sean was the first person to tell me he really believed I could do it. Sean was the first person to teach me how to use clip-less pedals, how to clip out BEFORE I fell over, how to change a flat, and how to make the best of some miserable hills. Without Sean to push me through my training, to be honest, I probably would have quit after the first day, but he encouraged me so much that I put my aching and weak legs aside and kept pushing. Sean managed to put up with my complaints and instilled in me a sense of confidence that I could achieve my goals- no matter how many miles – as long as I believed in myself and put my mind, and my legs, to it. Sean went out of his to way to bike to my house before every ride to pick me up, and even brought me along on group rides to help me become comfortable riding in groups for the trip. When I left on June 21st for my flight to Savannah where I would begin my journey with twelve other kids, I left a bit nervous, but determined to succeed.  The first day biking I was pleasantly relieved when I realized that I was completely prepared. Sean had not only completely prepared me, but he had instilled in me the confidence and the will to push myself beyond my limits. He taught me lessons that I will carry through out my entire life, for this I am very grateful. I would recommend training with Functional Endurance Concepts to anyone interested in working with the best, and most invested trainer out there. Thanks Sean for everything!"

  • “I came to Sean with the idea of working on a plan that would fit into a hectic work/life schedule. Sean asked me what time I had available for training and what some of my goals where. After several emails and discussions, and taking some baseline numbers… what evolved were some great strategies tailored to my schedule. It basically completely changed my thought process around training. I am constantly referring to his notes and charts and calendars to make adjustments. My first race of the year put me on the podium on a race I have always been well outside the top three… I have only scratched the surface of our original plan and have already seen results! Thanks Sean!”

  • "I came to Sean mid-January and asked him if he could come up with a winter training plan to get me ready for my first season goal: Battenkill. I told him I wanted a top ten finish. He put together a plan and this past April I placed 8th in the Men's Cat 3 Grey Race. My result was definitely due in part to the schedule he designed. He provided exactly what I was looking for: a well structured training program to get me through the long, dark, and cold winter months. If you're looking to add some focus or even a solid foundation for the beginning (or rest) of your race season I recommend Sean."
